Doing a full stocktake after Stocky shuts down
Stocktakes now have a home in Shopify admin itself. Since October 2026 it has stock counts, and they handle a full store count as well as the small regular ones.

What replaced what
Shopify admin has a Stock counts page under Inventory. You pick a location and the products to count, staff record quantities with a barcode scanner or by typing them, and several people can work on one count.
Nothing changes until a manager reviews the differences between counted and recorded quantities and approves them. Each approved difference goes into the adjustment history. At locations with Shopify POS Pro, staff can do the count in the POS app as well.
A full count, in order
Create one stock count for the location with every product you stock there, count it by scanner, review the variances, and approve them.
- Freeze receiving while you count, or count in sections and finish each section before stock moves in it. Counting a moving target is the usual reason a stocktake produces numbers nobody trusts.
- Review the variances before approving anything. Large single item swings are usually a counting or unit error, not shrinkage.
The spreadsheet route still works if you would rather count on paper: export inventory to CSV, count offline, and import the corrected quantities back.
A note on what I sell, since this page names no app
I publish this guide and I make a label printing app. Stocktakes are not something my app does, and Shopify's own stock counts now cover them, so try those before paying for a counting app.
